Day Two: MS Ignite The Tour Sydney 2020

Woke up a little tired on Day Two. I ended up heading out for dim sum with some colleagues and then stayed up late reviewing material.

The second day of MS Ignite Sydney was another great day. With all of the Managing Windows and Office 365 sessions out of the way, I went to some more dev focussed sessions.

Sessions

I attended the following sessions today:

Code Session Title
BRK30213 Azure DevOps Pipelines for Azure Integration Services
THR10001 Learn How Microsoft Flow is the Perfect Automation Platform to Streamline Workflow Processess Across Your Entire IT Ecosystem
MDEV50 Windows 10: The developer platform, and modern application development
BRK30214 Flic and FLow - a pair of goodness
BRK30212 How to build a Quokkabot
MOD50 Managing delivery of your app via DevOps

I found that these were a great mix of sessions to attend, each with their own valuable information.

Highlights of the day

  • Demos require sacrifices
    • Two of the sessions that had flawless demos offered a sacrifice to the demo gods
    • Those that didn’t offer a sacrifice had issues with their demos
  • I’m liking what people are doing with Azure DevOps
    • BRK30213 had some great information on using PowerShell in combination with ARM templates that requires further review
  • Flow is now called Power Automate
    • It is handy to know that it was called Flow as there are a lot of resources for Flow still available
  • Quokkas are cute
    • I already knew this, but everyone needs to know this

More ideas, more things to bring home and look further in to. Some of these sessions I went to more for personal interest but found ideas that I could implement at work. Now I’ve got to more content to write up about to present to my work colleagues.

Things to remember for next time

  • Get a map for the location of the conference
  • Bring a neck pillow for the flight
  • Get a larger suitcase to have space for souvenirs
  • Bring some of medication, e.g. Paracetamol and Ibuprofen

Now it’s back to work and getting back into the swing of things. The last couple of days have been great and I’m looking forward to MS Ignite 2021!

P.S. In-plane WiFi is great.
